I even offered to help them track down the issue. I waited a while so I certainly gave them enough of a chance to respond. Update: I contacted support and nobody even bothered to respond to me. But, sometimes, it’s just less of a struggle. It’s very frustrating! I’ve found myself resizing apps manually which really defeats the purpose of having this app. I’ve had apps that I’ve tried to resize by pulling them to the edge of the screen and it didn’t work over and over again, then the app just got chucked onto the next Desktop over rather than actually resize in the right way. I’ve had Firefox open in more than one window and one of the windows would get picked up at the screen edge just fine, but then the other one wouldn’t. However, dragging an app to an edge of the screen to have it automatically resized only works sometimes. When using the menu on the top bar, apps reliably are resized to whichever part of the screen I choose. I’ve had continuous problems with this app since installing it. Don't drive yourself crazy, just click Help when something is wrong. The best solution to a simple problem often IS the simplest solution. I'm back to having the full, awesome functionality of Magnet in less time than it took to manually position 3 -4 windows the hard way like I've been doing for a month. It took all of 30 seconds to fix, most of which time was spent entering my password in System Preferences to unlock modifications to my Accessibility settings. If this happened to you too, there is a very simple fix that should have been the obvious first troubleshooting step, but took me a ridiculously long 5 weeks to discover and try: click the "Help" option in the Magnet app and follow the very simple instructions in the front page FAQ covering this issue. It’s entirely worthy of its ludicrously high Customer Ratings if you have the slightest inclination toward buying it, I heartily encourage you to do so.įor anyone that lost "Snap windows by dragging" functionality, click the "Help" menu in-app.Īfter upgrading to MacOS Big Sur, I lost the "Snap windows by dragging" functionality and manually setting every window through the clicking the Magnet icon in the taskbar and selecting from the drop down menu was really inefficient. Magnet has become one of those absolutely essential programs that I immediately miss when I use a Mac that doesn’t have it running. Magnet makes it easy to compare lists, use screen space effectively and efficiently, present data consistently and attractively…you’ll find a use for it, and you’ll love it. Think of it as the window-tiling feature in Microsoft Excel for the Mac…but for *everything*. If that sounds complicated, it’s not - you’ll get used to it in seconds and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. With Magnet you can effortlessly resize windows to fill any half of the screen (horizontal or vertical), quarter of the screen, 1/3 or 2/3 of the screen (vertically), or fill just the center or the entirety of the screen by dragging the window to the appropriate area at the edge of the screen or by hitting the associated key combo (all of which you can easily define). Works on all macOS versions since 10.13 High SierraĮvery good thing you’ve heard about Magnet is true!Īpple has done very well to declare Magnet an Invaluable Utility and list it in its grouping of best “Get Productive” apps - it’s a tiny little program that gives Finder and program windows on the Mac the “Snap” feature that Microsoft Windows has had for quite a while now.Activated by keyboard shortcuts (customizable).Sixths supported on ultra-wide monitors.Left Two Thirds & Right Two Thirds supported.Taking advantage of such arrangements eliminates app switching and greatly enhances workspace efficiency.Īll commands can be triggered via keyboard shortcuts as well – there is a Magnet icon in the menu bar where you can find a predefined set of hotkeys or create one that fits your habits. Sliding on the bottom edge creates thirds, or even sixths on ultra-wide monitors. And by dragging its windows to corners, you snap them into quarters. In one drag to the edge of your display, you size any app into half of the screen. Magnet makes this process swift and easy. ** Apple App Store Selections: "Our Favorite Mac Apps" & "Essential Apps & Tools" **Įvery time you multitask with many apps open, you need all the windows arranged accordingly. The Bureau of Aeronautics believed that if the Navy’s fighters were going to be burdened with a large missile, it needed to be able to hit a large, nonmaneuvering bomber from as far away as possible. Finally, in initial design projects, physical limitations on electronics and control surfaces made any proposed infrared weapon just as heavy as its radar-guided counterpart. Second, tests in the 1940s had shown that infrared technology had difficulty tracking airborne targets due to issues with lens optics and reflection. First, the need for visual acquisition seemed to provide only limited benefits when compared to cannons. Infrared technology was considered, but after a very brief flirtation with the concept it was discarded for several reasons. Continuing with technology development that had begun in the late 1940s, the Navy focused instead on a large, radar-guided weapon. What neither bureau desired was a heat-seeking missile. It was clear to the Bureaus of Ordnance and Aeronautics that if aircraft carriers were to survive, something had to be done. naval leaders to believe that the era of the cannon-armed fighter was rapidly drawing to a close. In addition, perceived advancements in Russian bomber technology prompted U.S. pilots’ training had allowed them to survive and also claim several kills in a handful of encounters, but the Navy was under no illusion as to the airframes’ relative abilities. Navy’s primary fighter, the Grumman F9F Panther, had been completely outclassed by North Korea’s MiG-15. This fear was further exacerbated by the events of the Korean War (1950–53). Like so many aerial weapons of the 1950s, the impetus for the AIM-9 Sidewinder stemmed from the threat of the atomic bomb. Navy’s supercarriers, and the venerable Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bomber as a vital component of American military power and ultimate victory during the “long twilight struggle” of 1947–91. 2 Given this, the AIM-9 deserves to be as respected as the United Kingdom’s ubiquitous Royal Ordnance L7 105mm tank cannon, the U.S. Whether hanging from North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies’ aircraft as part of the alliance’s deterrence posture or being employed in direct military action, the Sidewinder greatly enhanced the West’s ability to apply airpower as a counterpoint to the Communist Bloc’s numerical advantages from 1958 to 1991. In what was fundamentally its first operational test, the Air Intercept Missile (AIM)-9 Sidewinder began what would be a long, distinguished career serving the West during the Cold War, waged between the Soviet Union-led Eastern Bloc and the United States-led Western Bloc. At least four and possibly as many as six MiG-17s were quickly dispatched, with the remainder diving away back toward the Chinese mainland. To what was likely the Communist pilots’ horror, these rockets immediately began to curve and pursue several MiG-17s with unerring accuracy. From a little more than a mile away, several F-86s began firing what appeared to be rockets from under their wings at a group of MiG-17s. Rather than diving away toward home in an attempt to disengage, however, the F-86s pitched upward toward the MiG-17s that had just passed overhead. Loitering at high altitude until they assumed the F-86s to be low on fuel, the MiG-17s descended to a couple thousand feet above their prey. Able to fly faster and higher than the F-86s, the MiG-17 pilots believed that the initiative rested solely in their hands, based on several weeks of previous experience. As had been the case since the start of the conflict over Quemoy and the Matsu Islands, located just off the coast of mainland China, the MiG-17s were seeking to provoke a response by Nationalist Chinese North American F-86 Sabre fighters. On 22 September 1958, during the height of the 1958 Formosa Crisis, a group of 20 Communist Chinese Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 fighter aircraft engaged in a sweep into Nationalist Chinese airspace. These Bell zip tie-type locks are available at Target and Amazon, and you can have two for less than half the price of the Cinch above. One crafty Amazon reviewer used their own hardware to screw the mount to the bottle bosses, which might prove sturdier than the friction mount. However, the design relies on friction to keep the lock in place, so user reviews are mixed on whether it works long-term. The included mounting bracket uses a nylon strap to affix to the frame rather than going through the bottle bosses, a design that increases your options for mounting positions. From personal experience, the 4-pound lock works great as a mallet, too. This u-lock has a 16mm hardened steel shackle and uses a pass-through crossbar design to prevent twisting attacks, forcing thieves to cut the shackle twice to compromise the lock.
